We have changed the date which volunteers are needed to distribute catalogs. We realized that 7th and 8th graders are not going to be at school on Thursday, Oct 23 or Friday, Oct 24.
If you are able to volunteer, please meet at the school on Wednesday, Oct 22 (instead of Thursday) at 9:30 a.m.

Again, Thank you for your help and support!

PTC Meeting - October 9, 2008

Thanks to everyone who was able to attend the PTC Meeting last Thursday. I apologize it has taken me so long to update this post. Sometimes life just gets in the way of my plans!

A huge thanks to all who helped during Open House...WOW, have we ever seen an evening like that? The numbers are still being calculated with Scholastic, however, it will most likely be one of our largest ever!

I can not express my gratitude to those who gave up time in your child's classroom to support the PTC and this bookfair. In addition, a HUGE thanks to Stephanie McElman who worked tirelessly on making the evening a success! Thanks again!

Items discussed at meeting:

1) Great American Catalog Fundraiser will begin on Oct 27 for two weeks. The catalogs will arrive at the beginning of Oct 20th week. Volunteers are needed to distribute catalogs to classrooms on Thursday, Oct 23rd. We want to really "talk this fundraiser up" as it is the largest one of the year.

2) T-shirt/Sweatshirt sales at the Open House were outstanding this year! We sold $297 that evening, which is well above our normal sales on that evening.

3)Bookfairs - This year we are adding an additional bookfair during the month of November. So, we will have upcoming bookfairs in Nov, Feb and Apr. We discussed/approved making up "Bookfair Bucks" to give to teaching staff to use to "purchase" their $25 gift from PTC. The list currently being used has a large problem with control and this will help in solving that issue.

4) Shop Til You Drop - Discussed that we have already got vendors calling to be involved. This was a very successful evening fo the PTC last year and hopefully will continue to grow each year. This year we will coordinate with our Nov bookfair and parents/customers can shop at both the event and bookfair that evening. We are also going to offer to the Cheer leading team an opportunity to "babysit" during event and give them those funds to go towards their fundraising goal for the Orange Bowl trip.

5) We discussed/approved paying for the Share Center. This was submitted by Laura Devin and we had supported last year. She is going to try to "talk it up" with other staff with the hopes that they will utilize this benefit as well.

6)We are going to host a family costume dance on Saturday, Nov 1st. In an effort to give back to our community, we will be charging a nominal admission fee and all food sales will benefit "Fuel For Friends" which benefits local families struggling to pay for heating fuel. Many of these families may be RSU 1 families.

7) We discussed/approved purchasing a used cash register from Betsy Lane for $25. This will replace the cash box and provide more control over the bookfair money.

Once again, a huge thanks for all your help and support!

PTC Meeting - September 11, 2008

We would like to thank everyone who attended our first meeting of the year! What a great turnout!

Since we had so many new parents in attendance, we spent a fair amount of time describing what the PTC's role has been, what fundraisers we have held and general procedures we follow.

We also discussed the following projects/ideas:

1) Scholastic Bookfair - Our first bookfair will be held during school hours 9/15/08 - 9/19/08. The PTC makes no money on this, instead we offer our percentage as a discount percentage for students to be able to purchase reduced priced books. For this bookfair all books are 30% off the retail price. We hope this will enable more students to enjoy more books than they might otherwise have access to. The PTC also give each teacher $25.00 towards their purchases for classroom books. We also normally give the Library $100.00 for purchases, however, we voted to give $300.00 for this bookfair. A sign up sheet of parents to volunteer time to "work" the bookfair is located at the Front Office of the school. Thanks to all who are able to help!

2) Great American Catalog - Our catalog fundraiser will begin 10/27/08 for two weeks. Our profit is 50% of all prices listed in the catalog. This is a new company that we have not used before. We have a local representative, which will be very helpful. The catalog was passed around for everyone to view.

3) BoxTops For Education - Michelle Rines discussed how the program works and last year we made approximately $1200.00 from tops turned in. She is gong to work on updating our collection box at the Woolwich Town Hall.

4) Campbell's Soup Labels - Jen Brown discussed the benefits of these labels. In the past, we have not had an organized effort to collect these labels. She has taken on organizing this program and more information will be available in the coming weeks.

5) Share Center - A center located in Lewiston and Topsham where, once you are a member, schools can go and pick out unlimited supplies, FOR FREE, to use. Laura Devin has requested the PTC fund the membership, which should cost approximately $400.00. She will forward more information as she receives it.

6) Readathon or Spellathon - we discussed the possibility of sponsoring a reading or spelling marathon. Jen Brown is going to investigate what teachers interest level of involvement is and explore the idea further.

7) Can Tab Fundraising - We discussed the fundraising thru collecting can tabs. Kelly Holbrook suggested we possibly find a local charity or one that is somehow connected with WCS. Tabs are collected and turned in for money and would be a great way to give back to our community.

Once again, a HUGE thanks to all for your help and support!

New WCS Sign...donated by the PTC

The new school sign project is finished.
A HUGE thanks to Norm Bachelder and Pat Harrington for setting and installing the sign!! The pictures show a white film over the case windows, which will be removed once school starts. Behind that film is a track-like system which lettering can be used to post information.

WELCOME TO THE NEW PTC BLOG

As we all leave for the summer, the Woolwich PTC would like to thank all parents, staff and students for all your help and support this year. We are so fortunate to have such a great community.

We have created this blog to keep parents and staff informed of what the PTC is doing, what needs we might have for volunteers, what events are approaching, etc. We know life is very busy with responsibilities that may prevent attending meetings. We do not want you to feel that just because you can not make a meeting you can not be involved with the PTC. There is a location on the right side of the blog where you can sign up to receive emails when this blog is updated with new information and we hope you will stay informed through that service.

Have a wonderful, relaxing and safe summer and we hope you check back here in the fall!
