MidCoast Parents Connect and a freebie!!

Midcoast Parents Connect has provided a link to a great online program for parents and how to handle teen drinking and really relates to over the counter drugs, as well as, prescription drugs. Read below how to win some free STUFF! It is a great program to watch!

1. Under New User type: engage

2. Click "Sign Up"!

3. Create a user name and password for yourself

4. Click on "Parent's Cafe" to start the course!

Remember, if you get interrupted once you start the course you can logout and return when you have more time and the program will remember where you left off.

We are excited to have this new resource to offer to busy parents who need advice on how to talk to their teens about the risks associated with underage drinking.

At the end of the course parents are given the option of completing a commitment statement that serves to remind you of the steps you plan to take to help your teen make healthy choices about drinking. As a way of saying thank you for completing the course, we will award $10 gift certificates to Subway or Regal Cinemas to the first 20 parents who email a copy of their commitment statement to prevention@midcoasthealth.com.

RSU1 School Baord Meeting - Monday, Nov 15 @6pm - West Bath Elem

The RSU 1 administration is proposing a switch to standards-based grading from the 6th – 12th grade. We currently have this grading system until the 5th grade, but the plan is to extend this to 12th grade. The current scale is A+ to F- (......15 levels) for grades 6-12. This will be reduced to 4 levels (1-4) on a standards-based report card. If you’d like to have a voice on this topic before the School Board votes, please consider attending this meeting.

Hall-Dale School (RSU 2) switched to this report card. 140 parents signed a petition against it, but it made no difference. They are now finding that the 1-4 scale doesn’t have enough levels. The Superintendent of Schools in Yarmouth also proposed this through 12th grade, but the Yarmouth Board recently voted it down due to the objections of parents. Nancy Harriman will be presenting on the elementary report card at tomorrow’s meeting.

Meeting Minutes from Septemeber 23, 2010

Hi Everyone,

Wow wow wow ... it was exciting to see all the parents that came to our 1st PTC meeting of the 2010/2011 school year! It reminds me once again what a wonderful community and school we have that so many parents are interested in promoting and enhancing the education of our children! Without these parents and their willingness to help we would not be able to extend the learning opportunities of our students! THANK YOU! :)
~km

Meeting Minutes
1) Discussed the activities of the PTC over the summer.

a)Harbour Towne Inn - a HUGE thank you to Stefanie M for hosting any staff member interested to an overnight stay at the Harbor Towne Inn in Boothbay. Unbelievable comments from staff on this offer and how this opportunity was one of a kind and unlike any at other schools!
b) Teacher Welcome Back bags - once again we provided every classroom teacher with a welcome back bag of goodies and supplies on the first day of school.
c) Water - the first two days of school where beyond hot and we bought and served every staff member an ice cold bottle of water during the second day of school.

2) T-Shirts - we have three new tshirts available at great new low pricing of $8 per shirt. Sweatshirts will be added this coming week.

3) Pure Art Fundraiser - this is a fundraiser which all profits go to the Art Dept at WCS. Last year, we were able to add $1600 to the Art Dept budget through this fundraiser. Students are working right now on their artwork and it will be sent home on 10/4/10.

4) Genevieve Wrapping Paper - we have decided to go back with this company this year and the sale will start 10/11/10 - 10/25/10 with delivery +/- Nov 15. They have offered us a HUGE grand prize to hand out.

5) S.T.U.D - otherwise known as Shop Til U Drop Craft Fair will most likely be held on Dec 4 in the Huse Cafeteria. Date is tentative. Karen M and Deb Y to co-chair this event.

6) Please make sure to change your old suscom emails and resubscribe at the bottom of this blog with new comcast addresses.

7) Discussed adding a fruit fundraiser during January 2011. Details still to be worked out.

8) Box Tops for Education - Michelle R is stepping down at chairperson and Kristen C, Katie S and Jennifer P will tri-chair this fund raising.

Teacher Appreciation Week Round-Up...

This week was Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week at WCS! On Monday, we treated the staff to a variety of mixed fresh fruit trays in the staff room. On Tuesday, we served up some yummy veggie trays. On Wednesday, we had bowls filled with three different kinds of trail mixes for them to munch on. On Thursday, we replaced our traditional "Dunkin Donuts Day" with a healthy version of breakfast breads, muffins and croissants to fill them up. And today, they will each be receiving a pretty pink geranium with a "You Are Amazing" paw tag letting the WCS Staff know how awesome we think they are! Thought I'd post a couple of pictures and I am going to try to remember to do this more often so if you can not make an event, etc. you can still see what the PTC is up to!

Thank you for your support and have a wonderful Mother's Day!

PTC Meeting Minutes, April 15th and Additional Announcements

At our meeting on Thursday, April 15th we approved the following funding requests:

~ Transportation for both Kindergarten classes to Wolf's Neck Farm
~ Chewonki presentation for both 2nd grade classes

We also discussed our annual wrapping paper fundraiser for next year. We will be using Genevieve's instead of Sally Foster, as Sally Foster has stopped their wrapping paper catalog operation.

In addition, we discussed the addition of a new fundraiser next spring which will be the sale of citrus. In anticipation of continued and larger funding needs in the upcoming years, we felt it was important to add this additional fundraiser.

Thank you to those who attended!!

The Woolwich Wellness Team is hosting a "Eat The Rainbow" week during the week of April 26 - April 30. They will be serving an afternoon snack to all students, each day, with a different color theme. (Monday = Red/ Pink, Tues = Orange, Wed = Green, Thurs = Blue/ Purple, Fri = Yellow) They are looking for volunteers to come and chop fruits and vegetables each day. They are also wearing clothing with that days color theme, in case you are interesting in wearing them too! Please go to our volunteer website - CLICK HERE TO GO - and volunteer!!

Michelle Rines has once again taken on the HUGE task of organizing the Book Swap in June. We need some volunteers for that event as well. She is looking for a volunteer to help her collect books from the bucket down near the library. We will also need volunteers for set up, working the swap and break down of the swap. Please go to our volunteer website -

As always, thank you for all you do to support our students!!

Woolwich PTC is on Facebook!! Just another spot to get updates and information about what's happening with the Woolwich Central School PTC!! Hope you will be our friend!!

Jan and Feb Meeting Info...

I hope everyone enjoyed a fun filled and happy winter vacation!

Sally Foster orders arrived and I have only heard of a few issues. Please let me know if you have heard otherwise. I am canceling our January meeting next week. We have a bit of a lull in activities, so I felt there was not a great need to get out on a cold winter night. We will meet in February, however, I wanted to give you the heads up now that I am going to change the date to the first Thursday, February 4th. Our normal Thursday is the day before we head out on February break so I thought many might not be able to make that if traveling, etc.

Also, I have added Woolwich PTC to Facebook!!! I thought this could be another place where on the day of our meetings, etc. I could post a reminder. Please do not feel like you must "friend" Woolwich PTC, just thought it might serve as another spot of communication!

As always, thank you for all your support and time!! :)
