Meeting - 10/8/09

The following items were discussed at the PTC meeting on Thursday, Oct 8, 2009
  • PureArt Fundraiser - 60% of all orders goes to the WCS Art Dept. Orders are due back 10/16/09. Although, we can accept late orders until 10/21/09.
  • Sally Foster Wrapping Paper Fundraiser - Catalogs will be sent home on 10/21/09. Sale runs until 11/13/09. Delivery on 12/11/09. This year, Sally Foster is not attaching parent letter so we will have a meeting on Tues, Oct 20 at 11am at WCS to assemble the packets.
  • We have set up a new volunteer site. Please go to the site and register. We will now use this site for scheduling volunteer activities to stop the large number of emails that become confusing. The new web address is http://woolwich.my-pta.org
  • This blog will still be the location of all announcements, information and updates. We will use the other simply as a scheduling tool.
  • Spooktacular Family Dance - Sarah S and Beth H will be heading up this event to take place on Oct 30th. We decided funds raised during that event will go towards new equipment for the playground at the Huse School for use next year, as there is only a couple of swings right now for recess activities.
  • Shop Til You Drop - Tracy S and Karen M will be heading up this event. Most likely scheduled during 11/29-12/9 during the bookfair dates so we can open the bookfair during the event. Tracy and Karen will be looking into do we want to change it to a day event on Saturday vs. evening event during the week.
  • Share Center - we voted to spend $227.17 on 1/2 of the dues for the Share Center for teacher supplies.

PureArt Cards Fundraiser

PureArt Fundraiser for WCS Art Department

Today, there is an folder in your child's backpack with an information letter, order form and your child's artwork for the PureArt Fundraiser for the Art Department. Students at Woolwich have created artwork for use in the fundraiser. PureArt will take your child's artwork and reproduce it onto different gift items. A variety of items, including Holiday Cards, Note Cards, Postcards, Checkbook Covers, Framed Prints and other items can be purchased with your child's artwork on it. The Woolwich Art Department will receive 60% of the total sales. If interested, you can go to www.zazandmoe.com/PureArtCards.html to see what the products look like. If your child has finished more than one piece of artwork, you can order items using different artwork on each item. Make sure to fill in the description column on the order form. Make checks payable to Woolwich PTC. All orders must be in no later than Oct 16th (next Friday). PureArt is a Maine company and we are excited to be able to offer a fundraiser and support a local company. If you are placing an order, please make sure to send back the folder, plastic sleeve, your child's artwork, order form, and payment. In an effort to recycle, if you are not ordering, please send back the folder and plastic sleeve as these can both be reused. Thank you for your support!

PureArt Cards Fundraiser

This year, we have added a new fundraiser which will benefit the Art Department. PureArt Cards (click name to go to their website) is a local company in Portland which makes holiday cards, checkbook covers, note cards, necklaces, etc. using YOUR child's artwork. Over the next three weeks, Laura Devin will be having every student at WCS make a piece of artwork. On Oct 9th, a packet will go home to parents on ordering information. When a parent places an order, they will receive it all with their child's artwork on it. We will profit 60% of all orders which is incredible! All products will be delivered back to parents before Thanksgiving break.

Updates

It was great to meet some new faces and see returning parents at the WCS Open House last week. Because that event took the place of our normal meeting, I wanted to touch base on a few items:

1) Scholastic Book Fair - Our first book fair of the year starts on Monday, Sept 21 thru Friday, Sept 25th. It will be open during normal school hours. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Stefanie McElman at mainco@suscom-maine.net. Shifts for volunteers are 8a - 12p and 12p - 3p.

2) Sarah Savard is looking into whether we could hold a "Trick or Trunk" in the parking lot followed by a family dance on Oct 30 or 31st. Will update everyone as information is gained.

3) Laura Devin would like us to split the cost of the Share Center this year again. It is based on how many students we have and as I get the final amount needed I will update.

4) Our new wrapping paper catalog, Sally Foster Fundraiser will begin Oct 26 - Nov 13th.

Our next meeting will be on Thursday, Oct 8 at 6p at WCS. Hope to see you all soon!

First Meeting of 2009-2010...

Hard to believe that school started today! Hopefully all of the kids had a successful day!

Our first meeting is going to be a "Meet and Greet" on Wednesday, September 9th, 530pm at WCS. Our normal meetings will be held on the second Thursday of the month. Due to scheduling conflicts this months will be on Wednesday. This evening is also the WCS Open House and so we thought it might work if people were planning on coming to the school for the open house, they stop in first for a fast, casual meeting and then head to their child's classroom. Instead of having to come to the school two nights in the week. We will set up a table in the cafeteria to, hopefully, meet some new parents and also should be able to discuss a few items we have so far.

In addition, our first Scholastic Book Fair will start September 18th!!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns and I hope to see all of you soon!!

PTC Meeting - March 12, 2009

Thanks to everyone who was able to attend the PTC Meeting last evening.

Items discussed:

1) RSU #1 Art Show - April 2, 2009 from 5-7pm. Laura Devin is looking for volunteers to set up art work at Dike Newell School. If you are able to do so please go anytime during school hours on April 2nd to Dike Newell. Any amount of time is appreciated. In addition, she was looking for people to bake cookies for that evening and (no surprise) we have enough volunteers to make 12 dozen cookies! Thanks ladies!!

2) Adopt a Book fundraiser for the library is on hold until we see what money is received from the stimulus package the RSU should receive. We will look at again in two weeks and see where things stand.

3) Michelle Rines gave us a update on Box Tops for education money. She has submitted our box tops for this year and we will receive $1130.40!! A HUGE thanks to Michelle for all she has done with this program. Michelle is interested in seeing if someone else would like to either take over or assist her in organizing the program. Please, see either Michelle or myself if you think you could help. Michelle has handled this for a few years and now would be a good time for someone else to step up and help her. Please consider this volunteer opportunity. It is a great opportunity for someone who can't always make the meetings but still wants to be involved with the PTC as most of the organizing is done at home.

4) Cabin Fever Dance - I will be speaking with Tom Soule to find a date we can hold the dance. The plan is to do very similar to last years dance with baskets, etc. Last year we had +/- $1200 donated to the PTC through this one evening fundraiser. Volunteers for each grade will be needed to assist in collecting basket items. More info to follow.

Once again, a HUGE thanks to all for your help and support!

PTC Meeting - Thursday, Feb 5, 2009

The February PTC meeting will be moved to a new date of February 5, 2009 at 6 p.m. at WCS.

Our meeting was to be on February 12 but the WCS February vacation starts on Feb 14th, so in an abundance of caution, we are going to move it to the week prior so we don't have too many members missing it if they are traveling. In addition, since December's meeting was canceled due to weather and January's meeting was canceled due to the straw vote, we need to meet for a few funding requests that have been received.

Please mark you calendars and join us on February 5 at 6 p.m.

MEETING CANCELLED FOR JAN 8, 2009

Our monthly meeting, which is normally in the 2nd Thursday of every month will be canceled for January 8 due to the straw vote for the new school.

We encourage you to come to WCS instead to cast your vote!! Straw vote starts at 6pm at WCS.

Our next meeting will be in February!!
